Yunior, the Narrator

  • Yunior is the prominent narrator of the story. There are few instances where others take the rein (such as the second chapter), but he is primarily in charge of describing events and characters.
  • The identity of the Narrator is hidden until the fourth chapter, where readers discover his collegiate relationship with Oscar. This initial shrouding leaves readers wondering who exactly is telling the story.
  • As a roommate of Oscar’s, Yunior is on the other end of the spectrum of dating life. He is constantly dating girls, and even tries to help fix Oscar’s own dating woes. Eventually, Yunior begins dating Lola (Oscar’s sister), but that relationship ends.
  • Yunior’s reliability as a narrator is questionable.
