• Oscar is a complete foil to male nature, and in particular, the Dominican male community.
  • Initially, when he is young, he embraces masculinity by taking on two “girlfriends” and proudly boasting of the fact. However, this relationship quickly dissipates and his love life goes downhill.
  • Oscar also has a brief love interlude with a girl named Ana, whom he meets at an SAT prep class. However, this “love” isn’t mutual, and their relationship never extends into any sort of sexual intimacy, mainly due to the fact that Ana has a boyfriend (and an abusive one, at that).
  • This “friend-zone” is one that Oscar is very familiar with. He finds himself in the same situation in college as he falls for a girl name Jenni, but never manages to get into the territory of sexual intimacy.
